Get Your Bed Bugs Under Control With An Exterminator

Many people are wondering can you eliminate and treat bed bugs on your own. Bed bugs are very difficult to remove since they are small in size, like to hide, and reproduce quickly. Not to mention the fact that during the egg stages, they are resistant to many forms of treatment. Basically, this means it may take more than one attempt to rid your home of bed bugs. Eliminating bed bugs will be a difficult process and other factors can make a difference. Factors like the extent of the infestation, the amount of clutter in the home, and where you live.

If you live in an apartment complex with a big infestation, it is going to be impossible to rid your home of bed bug completely. The reason is because the bed bugs have probably already spread to your neighbor’s home. Once you rid them from your apartment, they are likely to travel back from next door. It is really going to depend on how willing your neighbors are to rid their home of the critters. Before you do anything you are going to have to identify the problem and make sure you are actually suffering for a bed bug infestation.

Identifying an Infestation

It is important to remember that you do not just develop bed bugs overnight. They are a parasite that has to be brought into the home. Did you just recently buy a piece of furniture at a garage sale or did you stay in a hotel that could have been infested? Most people think that when they go to bed at night and wake up with unexplained bites that they are suffering from bed bugs, but this is not always the case.

The first thing you need to know is that bed bugs can actually been seen and what they look like. Most people believe they cannot even been seen, but this is not true.  They are however hard to spot due to their size, hiding abilities, and feeding habits. An adult bed bug is reddish brown in color and about the size of an apple seed. Immature bed bugs will be white or tan until they feed and they are the size of the head of a pin. Once a bed bug has fed, it will swell up in size making it much easier to spot, but they only feed late at night, so you will more than likely be asleep.

Finding Skins

Bed bugs have to feed in order to grow and before they can grow they have to shed their skin. If you are suffering from a big bed bug infestation there will more than likely be hundreds of skins lying around, where the bugs have shed. The skins are very similar to the bug, but they will be translucent in color. The best places to look for these skins are along the mattress seams, behind the headboards, baseboards, personal belongings, and furniture close to your bed. If you suffer from a bad infestation you may have to find a Bed Bug Exterminator in Denver, Colorado.
